To help residents stay safe during this weekend's major snowstorm and extreme cold, the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County have activated several warming centers and emergency shelters.
CitiParks Warming Centers
The city has opened five Healthy Active Living Centers (Senior Centers) as official warming stations for all residents. For Saturday, January 24, 2026, these locations are operating from 8 AM to 6 PM:
- Beechview: 1555 Broadway Avenue, South Hills
- Greenfield: 745 Greenfield Avenue, East End
- Homewood: 7321 Frankstown Road, East End
- Sheraden: 720 Sherwood Avenue, West End
- South Side: 12th & Bingham Streets, South Side
Extended CitiParks Recreation Center Hours
In addition to the warming centers above, several recreation centers are open on Saturday with limited hours for public use:
- Ammon: 2217 Bedford Avenue (11 AM – 3 PM)
- West Penn: 450 30th Street (10 AM – 3 PM)
- Arlington: 2201 Salisbury Street (10 AM – 2 PM)
- Ormsby: 79 S 22nd Street (10 AM – 2 PM)
- Magee: 745 Greenfield Avenue (9 AM – 1 PM)
- Warrington: 329 Warrington Avenue (9 AM – 1 PM)
- Brookline: 1400 Oakridge Street (8 AM – 12 PM)
- Phillips: 201 Parkfield Street (8 AM – 12 PM)
Overnight & Emergency Housing Shelters
For those requiring overnight shelter, the following locations are operating under the winter weather plan:
- Second Avenue Commons (Uptown): 700 Second Avenue. Provides year-round shelter and winter overflow beds. It serves as the primary hub for transportation to other county-run winter shelters.
- North Side Winter Shelter: 2610 Maple Avenue. Open 7 PM to 7 AM. Shuttles are typically provided from Second Avenue Commons.
- Smithfield United Church of Christ (Downtown): 620 Smithfield Street. Open 7 PM to 7 AM for men and women.
- Light of Life Rescue Mission (North Side): 10 E. North Avenue. Emergency shelter for men; arrive by 6:30 PM for intake.
- Bethlehem Haven (Uptown): 905 Watson Street. Emergency shelter for women. Call (412) 391-1348 for availability.
